I was out for a drive with a friend about 3 and a half weeks ago… up in southwestern Kentucky in an area known as Land Between the Lakes…
Now those of you that know me well, know that Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. I’m thrilled when the temps start dropping below 75… I bask in the crispness of the air… I’m overjoyed at being able to pull out my jeans and sweatshirts… and I stand in awe of the colors that God paints the leaves… every year… every … year.
Well, anyway, we were driving through the woods, just enjoying the day, (I was ecstatic that for one of the first times this year it was cool enough to be dressed in my new sweatshirt from my visit to Yellowstone this summer) but I was a telling my friend that I was sorely disappointed in the colors this year. There wasn’t much of anything… a lot of trees were still green, some I were a little on the light yellow or cream-colored side, and some browns… but nothing like the brilliant colors I usually wait and long for. And this was on October 19! The temps were down, but where was Fall, really??
Now I’m trying to figure out why it is that I ever doubt the faithfulness of my God… just because He doesn’t seem to be on my timetable – oh what a lesson I’m learning in many facets of life right now, but that’s another topic altogether – I’ve been blessed beyond measure in the last 2 weeks or so as the colors have really come in… bold and outstanding reds… brilliant oranges… bright yellows… and even the browns when blended with the rest are just beautiful! Thank you Lord for your creativity and variety even within the cycle and repetition of the seasons You have given us.
P.S. Now I'm just patiently awaiting some more drops in the temps and the snow to come! :o)
