Just have to take a few moments to brag on my friend Mary Lois. She decided a month or two ago that she wanted to learn to do some sewing. Her first project was a couple skirts. Simple, no-pattern-required skirts... one seam to make it around, elastic in the casing for the waistband and the hem. We did add a bit of pizzazz with some ric rac on one and seam tape on the other. She did fantastic! She is a great student and didn't even get frustrated at herself when she made mistakes. Well those were done around the end of April so she could take them home and wear them over Mother's Day.
The second project we finished last night. We had picked out a pattern for a diaper bag that also came with instructions for a changing pad and storage bag for it. We had cut out all the pieces on Saturday and decided that we also had enough left to make two small towels and 3 small washcloths. Saturday we began work on the bag. Sunday we finished the bag, the changing pad and its bag. Monday evening we went to get bias tape for the edging of the towels and washcloths. And last night she finished those! She is all set with her shower gift for her niece! And in addition, we believe we have enough left to do a small floor quilt, but will look at that further after Memorial Day weekend.
Happy Thursday!

Wow! Time really flies!!
Well, I'm sure that the few of you that had read some of my posts, have long ago given up on me... my apologies. I knew it had been a long time since I'd written here, but didn't realize it had been almost a year and a half. Yikes! The good news is that I have actually been writing in my journal throughout that time as I've had much going on that I needed to write for myself, ponder for myself, explore for myself. Not that I have stopped that, but I'm going to see if I can keep up with both. No promises, but if you'd like to get back in the habit of checking in here again, I'd welcome you. Not sure how interesting it's going to be, but we'll see.
I'm not going to try to do too much in the way of catching up, but a short bit on my employment would probably be in order. In January of 2009 I was laid off from Fleet One, but was not crushed or concerned. I got severance and had intended to start job hunting anyway... wanting to get out of a really bad situation and wanting to get back into the Executive Assistant role. It also happened with such timing that I was able to be in Dallas for about 5 days when Mom had her back surgery. In April I began doing some part time work for a friend of mine and by the end of the month was working for him full time as a bookkeeper. That went well until late fall when the company shifted things around and he was no longer over me. By the time I returned from vacation in early January 2010, I knew things were not good with this company and I began looking for another position... again really wanting to be back in the Executive Assistant role. The first week of March (the day before my birthday, actually) I was laid off, again. So the job search then began in earnest, no severance this time, but I still have not worried about this. I know that God is taking care of me, He always has and he will not stop now. I'm finishing my 3rd week with a company on a temp to perm assignment (60 days of temp). I really like the company and most of the people there, but I'm bored out of my mind and don't know that I'll be able to take the job permanently. I'm still praying about it, so we'll see.
In other news, Mom and Dad have moved into their house in northern Indiana. They spent the first night there on April 1st and I was able to be with them for 5 days during that time and enjoyed spending Easter with them and spending a little time with Grandpa too. They have made alot of progress since then as well and I look forward to going back up and seeing it more finished. They are currently in Texas, on the way to San Antonio today. My cousin Kevin is getting married on Saturday and he and his wife are graduating from med school the following Saturday, on the same day that his brother, Sean, is graduating from high school. I'm hoping that Mom and Dad will decide to come through here for Memorial Day weekend before going home, but we'll see.
I still spend me spare time doing the things I love, that hasn't changed... spending time with friends, reading, sewing, cooking, scrapbooking, knitting/crocheting, and traveling when I can. Last year I was gone both at Thanksgiving (Orlando to see Mickey!) and Christmas (Abaco... away from the world), but I don't know that I'll get to do much this year. I will go to Indiana/Ohio for at least a short time over Christmas. Mom and Dad will be in Texas for Thanksgiving, so I'll be staying here.
So... that's about it for the moment I guess... I'll be back, hopefully sooner than later this time around. :o)
